| Network Path
connection mode configuration |
Here are 5 easy steps for setting up Cafe Manger and Shield in Network Path connection mode.
1 - Install Cafe Manager on a system connected into network. This will be your admin PC, usually situated at reception, where you are dealing with customers.
2 - Install Shield on systems for users in a network. In Shield's Edit Menu select 'Network Path Connection' mode. Share Shield's directory with
Read/Write access rights for admin PC (where Cafe Manger is installed).
3 - On admin PC, map network drive for every Shield's share directory on a network. Check box 'Reconnect at start up'
4 - Reboot admin PC, just to make sure everything is OK.
5 - In Cafe Manager go to menu Tools>CM Configuration
Screen Shield tab, select 'Network Path Connection' mode and configure Network Path through a mapped drive for every PC where you have Shield installed.

| Using
barcode scanner with Membership database |
This tip was suggested by a one of the Cafe Manager users
" I have tested two types of bar code scanners and they both work. Scanners:
- PSC QuickScan 6000 Plus (Laser Type) Keyboard connect and
- CitherLab 1067 (CCD Type) Keyboard Connect.
Remove keyboard connector from back of computer. (both scanners come with a “Y” cable) attach one end of the scanner to the keyboard connector and the other end of the scanner back to the computer where you removed the keyboard from. You now have the scanner connected to the computer via the keyboard. You can use both keyboard and scanner independently.
I made up some membership cards with a bar code starting at 1 to correspond with the starting no. in database of Cafe Manager.
Because we have set up the bar code scanner through the keyboard, when you scan the barcode (the curser must be blinking in the member no. field) the computer reacts the same way as if you typed it and pressed the ”enter key”. Your data base takes care of the rest.
NOTE: I made my bar codes using CODE 128 I programmed the scanner to be always on (automatic scanning) I programmed the scanner with a ”carrage return” key function after the scan (normally this is how they are set when they come from the factory).
Best Regards,

| Sharing same database across multiple Cafe locations: |
| Option
1:
|
Program supports one data base file for multiple Cafe Manager Pro programs.
You need to do following:
- On a server create a folder (for example:
MainDB) and share it with full Read/Write access.
- From one of the installation of Cafe Manager Pro copy memdb.mdb (it's located in Cafe Manager Pro/MemDB directory) file to the server into MainDB folder.
- On every PC where you have Cafe Manager installed map a network drive to the server's MainDB folder. Select reconnect at logon check box.
- On every PC where you have Cafe Manager Pro installed you need to edit following Registry Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\MemDBService\2.0\Settings
Edit entry for DBPath : E:\memdb.mdb where E is the letter of the mapped drive to the server's MainDB folder
- On Cafe Manager PC you can delete local
memdb.mdb file to make sure that program will
not use local file if by some reason
connection with the server is broken.

| Option
2:
|
Membership information is kept locally in memdb.mdb file where Cafe Manager is installed.
If you want to share the same information among your other location
we can suggest following solution:
- You can use one of your location as a Master i.e. only here you can insert new members.
- In the morning you can send memdb.mdb file (by mail or through LAN) across other location in order to ensure that all Cafes has the same database. (they have to overwrite their copies of memdb.mdb with copy you've sent them)
- At the end of the working day they will send you information about new members for addition into the Master database

| Another way of setting up your additional services: |
Program supports
unlimited charge settings for additional services. By default it is set to a charge for Coffee, Tea, Drinks, Print, Scan etc.
You can designate one of them as just money pre-sets like: $1, $10, ˘50 etc.
For example: if you are using all 3 user's charge rates (Guest, Student, Member) and you also want to vary price based on time of day (cheaper rates in the morning more expensive rates in the evening).
You need to setup your user's charge rates at the lowest rate you have (morning rate). Setup one or more money pre-sets in order to reflect price increase during the evening. You need to experiment with this since it's mainly depends on how you are increasing rates.
In the evening simply add one of the money pre-sets when calculating total.
